José Dariel Abreu hit his 15th homerun in Cienfuegos´10-5 victory over Holguín, to keep the Elephants as the top winners in the current National Baseball Series. The winners achieved their 27th victory vs. 10 losses in the match decided in the first inning, when Abreu hit a homerun over the left field with two runners on bases. Abreu is the leader in average and homeruns along with Granma player Yoennis Céspedes, who also reached that mark after heating up Mártires de Barbados stadium in the 8th inning.
Céspedes´homerun, a grand slam, sentenced the match in which Granma beat Sancti Spiritus 9-2. From the winners, first baseman Yordanis Samón and third baseman Carlos Benítez also hit homeruns, and Yuliesky Gourriel hit his 9th in this series.
Ciego de Avila remained first in the eastern pool, three games over Granma after defeating Isla de la Juventud 12-7 at José Ramón Cepero stadium. Despite earning 6 runs, right-handed pitcher Yander Guevara (3wins- 3 losses) achieved victory, while Oscar Jacomino (0-2) lost and veteran Antonio Barroso saved his fifth game in the season. Center fielder Yoelvis Fiss led Ciego de Avila´s offensive with three hits in five turns, including his 11th homerun.
The national champions, Industriales managed 18 hits to beat up Las Tunas Woodcutters 11-4 at Latinoamericano stadium. Alexander Malleta hit a single through the left field in the first inning and achieved 1000 hits in National Series. Rookie Gerardo Concepción (3-1) won the game for Germán Mesa´s team and “firefighter” Armando Rivero looked recovered by saving his 4th game in the season.
Matanzas knocked out Camaguey 14-4 at “Victoria de Girón” Park, scenario in which designed hitter Lázaro Herrera hit two homeruns, brought in 4 runs and scored three. Yohan Hernández (4-4) worked for 7 innings to achieve victory and Ramón Robles (1-5) lost.
