The Children Center for Neurological Restoration in Aguada de Pasajeros municipality, one of its kind in the country, has performed 51 rehabilitation cycles up to this moment.
Over 990 patients, from almost every province in the country, have been attended here by a multidisciplinary team of specialists formed by Health, Education and INDER (Spanish acronym for the National Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation) workers.
The attention program, conceived through an intensive cycle of 28 days, has an interdisciplinary and personalized character that includes medical attention 7 hours a day.
“Among the pathologies we treat are sequels of neurological affections, static lesions of the central nerve system expressed as brain paralysis in its different modalities, epilepsies and other neurovascular, medulla, neuropsychological and neurocutaneous diseases”, referred Dr. Rolando Veloz Pujol, Director of the facility.
The average age of most of the patients goes fro 2- 4 years old. The psychomotor development, hyperactivity and gross motor function are systematically assessed, internationally qualified parameters, added Veloz Pujol.
This medical facility in Aguada de Pasajeros municipality is advised and prepared by the International Center for Neurological Restoration located in Havana, presided by Dr. Julián Álvarez, who after detecting the high rate of children suffering neurological sequels in this municipality in Cienfuegos in 2003 decided to organize this project, which celebrated the 8th anniversary of its creation.
