Fitting the Journey for the Cuban Culture, the second exposition from “Los siete magníficos” (The seven magnificent) project was inaugurated at the Provincial Center for Expressive Arts.
“Contra viento y marea” (Against all odds) is the suggestive title used by seven creative artists from Cienfuegos who have in common the fact of sailing the warm waters of art for almost three decades.
With full sails they get to port to engrave themselves in the memory of this manifestation in the territory, due to their hardworking spirit and their talent.
In the journey the audience can perceive diverse modes and styles under the personal seal of Julián Espinosa (Wayón), FranK Iraola, Juan García Cruz, Néstor Vega, Rafael Cäceres, José Basulto and the last of the magnificent, José García Montebravo, who although gone left his imprint in the Cuban naïf art.
As a gesture to these artists, young Luis Miguel Rivero took the pictorial image of their faces in portraits as homage.
It was a happy initiative from Provincial Center for Expressive Arts to celebrate the Journey for the Cuban Culture precisely from a city declared Cultural Heritage of Mankind with this expo that implies its own mark of Cuban spirit.
