The restoration labors in the Urban Historical Downtown area in Cienfuegos, Cultural Heritage of Mankind, are retaken to give back the freshness of ancient buildings and streets from the 19th century.
This restoration program only covered the immediate surrounding areas of Park and it now extends for 50 blocks in that area, which the first urban projects of the city departed from.
The labors include repair works for houses, recreational facilities, grocery stores and cafeterias and healthcare facilities as well as the elimination of citadels, among other actions.
Elohilda Cruz Jiménez, Director of José Luis Chaviano Chávez University Polyclinic, assured to feel happy with the restoration and moving of the facility, formerly located in a 1931 buiding.
Now the inhabitants of the historical downtown will receive medical attention in a more comfortable environment, explained the official of this staff that also comprises 13 consulting rooms and two senior care centers.
Angelina Casalta, who has lived in Cienfuegos for the last 50 years, pointed out the quality of the labors and acknowledged the effort done to preserve the historical memoir and the quality of life of those who live in one of the most ancient areas of the city.
According to 5 de Septiembre local newspaper, 900 tons of asphalt will be used to pave several avenues, including those through which once, streetcars used to circulate by the beginning of the 20th century.
