Mariners on the field again but in Second Division

Mariners on the field again but in Second DivisionAfter the usual comes and goes of Cuban soccer today, the “famous” Second Division, a match in which the seven teams that had the worst results in the last national championship in our country.

There will be time to question such decision, taken precisely when the Cienfuegos Mariners placed 10th and not before, when they reigned at will in the soccer context of our nation.

The truth is that, once ended the provincial tournament (won by the Cienfuegos municipality team by winning to its similar in Cruces municipality), the provincial pre selection was summoned, which trains since two weeks ago for the coming event.

From conversations with provincial commissioner Armando Blanco, 36 athletes (out of the initial 50) train today, 15 of them from other municipalities and 4 from juvenile leagues.

Within the group outstand goalkeepers Arael Arguelles, Maykel Estrada and Denni Quintero, defense Didier Castillo, centrals Enrique Villaurrutia, Alexei Carrazana and Yoisnel “Skipper” (Capi) Mesa, and center- forwards Yusniel “África” Benítez and Hosniel Cabrera.

The second division of the Cuban soccer will start in Sancti Spiritus on September 14th, where the first of two rounds will take place in all vs. all system, playing every two days. Besides Cienfuegos and Sancti Spiritus teams selections from Isla de la Juventud, , Matanzas, Holguín and Granma will participate.

The second round is programmed for the province of Holguin, but there is not certainty on whether this venue would be kept or Sancti Spiritus would also host the match.

The first two places of the match will gain the right to face the teams placed between the seventh and eighth positions in the last national championship. The winners will enter the First Division, which has been scheduled for February.
