The preparation stage for the baseball players in the Pearl of the South (The Elephants), who intend to repeat the good performance they had in the National Series, entered a vital phase, since this week they started their training matches usually useful to measure the achievement of the intended objectives.
The Sancti Spiritus Roosters paid a visit to 5 de Septiembre Stadium to play couple matches versus the locals, who will do the same within the next few days. The Cienfuegos team´s manager, Iday Abreu presented a well balanced line up, showing both power and speed. Lázaro Rodríguez opened the line up defending the left field followed by Yoelvis Leyva and Yusniel Ibáñez, center and right fielders.
Osvaldo Arias was fourth in the order as designated hitter while Yadir Ferrán played catcher.
Adriano García played second base, Erisbel Arruebarruena played short stop and Darián González played the third base position to complete the line up.
Pitcher Noelvis Entenza was the opening pitcher. Although the team from Sancti Spiritus lacked some important members, the match proved the excellent status of the Elephants in all aspects of the game. This Friday Iday Abreu´s troop will face a double match versus Villa Clara Oranges, current national sub- champions.
