Five pre- congress events and three workshops were developed today in Cienfuegos city fitting the 8th International Convention for Environment and Development that will take place in Havana from July 4th– 8th 2011.
Several investigations competed in these pre- congress events and workshops looking for a place among the 25 ones that will represent the province and which, along with other territories, will fight to be chosen to represent our country next summer.
Environmental management, Climatic change, Protected areas, Environmental education and Ecosystems and Biodiversity Management were the topics in the pre- congress events; while those from the workshops dealt with Risk assessment, vulnerability and hazard, Environmental Law and Environmental organization.
The Environmental education pre- congress event and the Risk assessment, vulnerability and hazard workshop were developed at the venue of the National Association of Cuban Economists (Spanish acronym ANEC) in Cienfuegos, in which the jury was formed by Caridad Casales Dueñas, Anay Duarte López and Oslaidy Perera Mira.
Among the research with greater impact outstood the one entitled “Factores que determinan la renovación de las aguas de la bahía de Cienfuegos” (Factors that determine the water renovation at Cienfuegos Bay), whose aim is to determining the influence that tides, winds and fluvial contributions have on the exchange processes in the bay and the environmental implications of the water renovation processes.
According to Caridad Casales, provincial coordinator of the event, “… the works will be selected if they accomplish high scientific standards and provide solutions to environmental problems in the province”.
